Jean-François leads health design strategy and innovation for the commercial segment of UnitedHealthcare, focusing on large employers. His work focuses studying data of over 400 large employer experiments and identifying best practices in health engagement, total cost affordability as well as their combined impact on business performance. Jean-François is a frequent speaker at business forums representing the broad analytical capabilities of the enterprise. He is an active collaborator with UHG’s largest clients to innovate new benefit strategies to drive greater health ownership in their populations and optimize the value of their overall health plans.

Jean-François joined the company in 2006 as chief actuary of national accounts for UnitedHealthcare. He has authored key innovations related to individual health engagement, including the Health Activation Index®, the Health Plan Manager reporting platform and the development of personal health scorecards used by participants in wellness programs. Most recently, he has taken on the additional responsibilities of network strategy and value-based care to modernize the portfolio and performance for our clients who are seeking more advanced network-based solutions.

Jean-François sits on many of UHG’s innovation and product councils to help steer the company’s innovation forward, and over the years has led key enterprise task forces to address broad health market challenges, including specialty medications, opioids and more recently youth mental health.

He began his career in Montreal in 1991 at Towers Perrin as a consultant in benefits and pension valuations. In 1997, he moved to Connecticut and joined CIGNA, where he served in various capacities, including CFO of West Coast operations and head of the national provider contract underwriting unit.

Jean-François holds a bachelor's degree in actuarial sciences from Laval University, Quebec City, and has been a fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 1994. He resides in Connecticut with his wife and four daughters. For hobbies, he favors variety to stay healthy and engaged including: cycling, skiing, golf and tennis, as well as playing piano, reading and travelling.
