Dr. Press graduated from the University of Michigan in 1980 with a B.S. Degree-with distinction, Microbiology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine in 1984, and did his Internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University Medical School in 1984-85. He completed his Residency at Northwestern University Medical School, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago in 1988 where he was the Chief Resident. He has been an attending physician at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago since 1988 and in 1989 he founded and directed the Spine and Sports Rehabilitation Centers at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He has published numerous articles, edited numerous textbooks, chaired numerous courses, and lectures extensively nationally and internationally on the rehabilitation of spine and sports related injuries. Dr. Press was a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Reva and David Logan Distinguished Chair of Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation at the Feinberg/Northwestern University School of Medicine and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He was the Vice President of External Relations and the Executive Medical Director for Outpatient Physician Services at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He is currently the Physiatrist-in-Chief and the Joel and Anne Ehrenkranz Chair of Physiatry at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, and Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Weil/Cornell College of Medicine.

Dr. Press is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and board certified by The American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is Past President of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Past President of the North American Spine Society, Past President of The Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation, and has been an Oral Board Examiner and Written Board Examination-item writer for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
