Mental health inequities are the hidden underbelly of chronic conditions, playing a major role in rising and unsustainable healthcare costs. A new report from Deloitte and Meharry School of Global Health reveals that disparities in race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status lead to avoidable expenses and greater emergency department utilization, adding up to an estimated $477.5 billion per year in costs. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're calling attention to the fact that psychoeducation and awareness campaigns are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to addressing the mental health crisis in the U.S.. Real, lasting change is only possible through systemic and structural improvements, like increasing access to affordable mental healthcare and emphasizing culturally-informed research and care delivery. At Nox, we're doing our part to make sleep care more accessible by relying on a value-based approach, a member-centric experience, and real-world, validated outcomes. Our mission is to improve the lives of people with chronic conditions through the power of sleep, and we know that healthy sleep goes a long way towards alleviating mental health problems. https://hubs.la/Q02xzmPf0

Many patients do not adhere to CBT-I for chronic insomnia, yet it is the first line therapy recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Our VP of Medical and Scientific Affairs, Frances Thorndike spoke with Alyx Arnett of Sleep Review to discuss strategies to help patients start and stay on treatment.

A friendly reminder to mark mental health awareness month! People often forget that sleeping well is an essential part of caring for their mental health. Many mental disorders, including depression and anxiety, are comorbid with sleep disorders like obstructive sleep apnea and insomnia. Sleep disorders and mental health problems can exacerbate each other in a vicious cycle. Creating a comforting bedtime routine, avoiding screen time right before bed, and going to bed and waking up at the same time each day are all ways to get more restorative sleep — and improve your mental wellbeing in the process. #wakeuptoabrighterday #sleephealthishealth #sleep Sleep Disturbance: A Pipeline into Mental Health | Nox Health https://hubs.la/Q02w6j4L0

Reflecting on the past six weeks of bustling conferences nationwide, our Chief Commercial Officer, Jonathan Fox, shares insightful perspectives on our journey.

It’s been an action-packed six weeks of conference-hopping: showing attendees the Nox “Sleep Cave” and sharing our mission to improve the health of people with chronic conditions through the power of sleep. Thank you to The Conference Board and Business Group on Health for facilitating this opportunity to connect with leaders in healthcare and chat about our favorite topic: sleep. As it turns out, conference attendees had a lot to say about sleep as well. Here are some of my biggest takeaways: 1. Everyone’s buzzing about sleep. Looking at sleep disease as a chronic disease makes common sense, and now the data supports it being treated like one. We have access to more information about our sleep than ever, but wearables aren’t always enough. Support from a clinically-integrated team makes more of an impact, for members as well as plan sponsors. 2. Sleep gets personal. Tons of people have a personal connection to chronic insomnia and sleep apnea, whether they have it themselves or know someone who does. With 80% of sleep apnea cases going undiagnosed, it’s essential to shine a light on how engagement and comprehensive treatment can make a world of difference. 3. The 80/20 rule still applies, and might be getting worse.  Members with Chronic and polychronic conditions are becoming more prevalent, and those costs associated with the sickest members remain the focus of plan sponsors everywhere. Poor sleep is co-morbid with the top chronic conditions but often not addressed or treated.  4. Point solution fatigue is real. With seemingly endless, narrow options, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Nox stands apart by bringing a broad solution and managing the whole sleep vertical. Nox has real-world outcomes data that help our clients make thoughtful and informed decisions. 5. Our understanding of sleep equity is evolving – but it’s still a driving factor. Telehealth continues to be integral to making healthcare services more accessible. Telehealth alone doesn’t solve the problem of sleep health disparities. Nox is committed to providing broader access to sleep care and is working hard to create urgency around sleep in the benefit space. There was much to discuss this conference season, but a through-line in all of these topics? Chronic conditions. So much of healthcare innovation currently is focused on preventing and reducing some of the most debilitating (and expensive) conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and more. Effective sleep care is a tried-and-true way to lower the risk of chronic conditions and save employers millions of dollars in the process. Let’s keep this important conversation going. Big yikes! A new Gallup poll shows that Gen Z might not be #thriving the way we'd expect. Overall, Gen Z participants aged 18-26 years old rated their lives less positively than previous generations. One of the biggest factors contributing to their declining happiness metric? The amount of time they dedicated to weekend sleep and relaxation. Gen Z-ers who woke up with a sense of purpose and excitement about their day were more likely to be happier than Zoomers who didn't. Nox can help people of all generations wake up to a brighter world — stay connected to learn more about how we're changing the sleep care game. https://hubs.la/Q02tYF5P0
