Jamie Kane MD is co-founder and chief medical officer of Luro Health which provides obesity medicine services for underserved populations at FQHCs and CHCs. He is an Associate Professor in the department of medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and serves as chief of its section of Obesity Medicine. He is the director for Northwell Health’s Center for Weight Management (currently operating in nine sites throughout the Northwell System in the greater New York City area with twelve clinicians). There he has started two resident continuity clinics in obesity medicine and developed a year-long curriculum for residents in obesity medicine as well as creating one of the nation’s first fellowships in obesity medicine. He is senior member American Board of Obesity Medicine’s item writing committee, is the immediate past-chair of the advocacy and policy committee for The Obesity Society (now leads its sub-committee on prevention), as well being a member of the Obesity Medicine Fellowship Council and was a founding member of the board of directors of TriOS – the tristate obesity society. In addition to an emphasis on obesity education, past and ongoing research include resource utilization for primary care physicians for patients with obesity, intensive lifestyle modification in obesity including plant-based approaches, particularly in socially disadvantaged patients, the effect of mindfulness and meditation training on sustained behavior change, longitudinal care of bariatric surgical patients and co-morbidity screening, management and physiology in patients with obesity.
